Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has agreed to become the new manager of the Austria national football team and the 63-year-old will continue his job as the Red Devils’ advisor simultaneously.

The club confirmed the news earlier today through a statement that revealed the German has initially signed a two-year contract. However, the deal will automatically extend up to two more years if the United’s interim boss can guide Das Team to the 2024 European Championship qualification.

Rangnick will be in charge of the Nation’s League games of Austria in May following the conclusion of this season. The German will lead his team against Croatia, Denmark and France.

Meanwhile, the 63-year-old has also expressed his thoughts about this news and confirmed that he will continue both jobs simultaneously. He said on the club’s website:

“I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United. I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force again. It is an honour for me to take on the role of [Austria] manager.

“The prospect of contesting the European Championships in Germany with a young team hungry for success fills me with great anticipation.”

However, there hasn’t been any clarification provided about how he will manage both jobs simultaneously. The Red Devils will start a new chapter next season under the new manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman will need experienced candidates to help out in off-field activities in order to rebuild the squad. But, given Rangnick will not be there on a regular basis, Ten Hag might struggle to find success.
