Barcelona want Manchester United duo in a swap deal involving Coutinho

Barcelona are reportedly willing to offer Philippe Coutinho in order to lure one of the Manchester United strikers Anthony Martial or Edinson Cavani as per the report in Spanish outlet Sport

The French forward hasn’t had a great time since joining the Red Devils back in 2015. The 25-year-old lacks consistency and has found it difficult to play regular first-team football at the Old Trafford stadium, making only four starts in all competitions this season and scoring a solitary goal.

On the other hand, although Cavani displayed promising performances, the Uruguayan forward has struggled with his injury problems, managing only two starts and scoring a solitary goal this campaign.

According to the report, the Blaugrana are looking to sign a striker in the upcoming winter transfer window and the Manchester United duo is among the names on their wishlist. However, the Catalan giants’ offer of including their expensive flop Coutinho hasn’t entertained the Red Devils hierarchy.

Should Manchester United sell their forward duo to Barcelona?

Cashing in on one of the strikers would be a shrewd decision by Manchester United. The Red Devils currently have enough firepower in their attacking department and offloading one of Martial or Cavani would be a very good business from the club’s hierarchy.

However, given the current financial situation of Barcelona, it is looking highly unlikely that the La Liga giants could afford to price away Anthony Martial this January. However, signing Cavani would be easier for Xavi’s side as the Uruguayan’s contract will expire at the end of this season and he will be a cheaper option for the Spanish side.

Following the arrival of Ralf Rangnick, it will be interesting to see how the German lines up his side and how he utilizes the squad depth during this busy winter period. Martial failed to earn regular first-team action under the former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but could feature more often this time under the 63-year-old.

Meanwhile, having enjoyed only one victory in the last eight Premier League games, Manchester United will be looking to get back to winning ways when they welcome Arsenal in their next game on Thursday. Michael Carrick will continue as the caretaker manager in this game due to the work permit issue of Rangnick. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the Red Devils will perform in this crucial midweek encounter.
