Bayern Munich no longer interested in Manchester United target Rudiger

Manchester United have been handed a big boost in pursuit of Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger after Bayern Munich have distanced themselves from signing the Germany international as per the report from Christian Falk.

The 29-year-old has entered the final few months of his current contract but the Blues are currently unable to agree on a new deal with the centre-back due to the sanction imposed by the UK government.

Therefore, Rudiger is looking likely to leave the club for free at the end of this season. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are among the interested parties in signing the experienced centre-back. And apart from Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were also linked with a move for the German.

However, as per Falk, the Bavarians have backtracked from finalizing a deal for the 29-year-old as the club’s hierarchy are not keen on matching the player’s demands, given the defender is approaching his 30s. The journalist tweeted

“NOT TRUE is That @FCBayern is still interested in @ToniRuediger. The Bosses think he is too old for such an investment. For a Transfer, he would have to lower his wage demands.”

Our View:

Signing Antonio Rudiger will be an excellent acquisition for Manchester United. With Harry Maguire struggling to showcase his best this season, replacing the Englishman with the Chelsea star will be a shrewd decision by the club’s hierarchy.

The defender will demand a huge salary package, given he will be a free signing. Meanwhile, the Red Devils might struggle to persuade the German to join the Old Trafford outfit if the Red Devils miss out on a place in the Champions League next season.

Manchester United will be eyeing a squad overhaul next summer and their transfer business will be dependent on how they will finish this season. Failing to secure a place in the Champions League will impact them financially and they could also miss out on signing their first-choice targets.

Ralf Rangnick’s side are currently sitting in sixth in the Premier League with 50 points in 29 games. Fourth-placed Arsenal have so far accumulated four more points than the Mancunians, having played one less game. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur have now found themselves above the Old Trafford outfit despite showcasing a topsy-turvy campaign this term.
