‘Class, still’ – Liverpool fans applaud De Gea after unbelievable save

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea pulled off a marvellous save in the second half and the Liverpool fans were not shy from praising the rival keeper. 

The Red Devils have endured the heaviest defeat in the club’s history against their arch-rival after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side suffered a thumping defeat at Old Trafford courtesy of Mohamed Salah’s hat-trick and the contributions from Diogo Jota and Naby Keita. 

The day became even worse for the United fans after second-half substitute Paul Pogba picked up a red card for an awful challenge and a brilliant strike from Cristiano Ronaldo was disallowed by VAR for offside. 

The scoreline could have been even more embarrassing for Manchester United, had De Gea not managed to pull off a brilliant save from a wonderful Trent Alexander Arnold’s shot which was destined towards the top corner. Following this incident, Liverpool fans were full of appreciation for the Red Devils goalie.

Although De Gea conceded five goals against Liverpool, the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper has been the most improved player so far this season for Manchester United. 

Following the disappointing last couple of seasons from the Spaniard, the question marks were raised about his capability between the sticks. However, he has proved his doubters wrong and is enjoying a wonderful campaign for the Red Devils. 

Meanwhile, having endured a stinging defeat against the adversaries Liverpool, the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in jeopardy. Following Sunday’s result, Manchester United are currently eight points behind the league leader Chelsea and it is highly unlikely that the Red Devils could mount a title challenge from this situation. 

So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian has already stated that he is looking forward to the next game and bouncing back from this defeat, therefore, it will be interesting to see what decision the club management will take about Solskjaer’s future.
