Erik ten Hag has expressed his plan for Manchester United next season and also hinted about the future of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite showcasing a productive campaign this term, scoring 24 goals and notching up three assists in 38 appearances in all competitions albeit playing in an underperforming squad, the Portuguese superstar was accused of being the main problem for the Red Devils’ downfall this season.

Meanwhile, a few reports also claimed that United’s new boss Erik ten Hag has expressed his desire internally that he doesn’t want the 37-year-old in his squad for next season.

However, speaking to the press(via Sportbible) after the game against Vitesse, incoming boss Erik ten Hag revealed that he will start his job at Manchester United from Monday and will be doing a detailed analysis in order to understand the reasons for this season’s downfall.

The Dutchman has also stated he will be looking to bring the best out of an underperforming squad, including Cristiano Ronaldo. The 52-year-old has referred to the Portuguese superstar as a ‘giant’. Ten Hag said:

“From tomorrow, my focus will be on United, and I will of course get deep into things there. What I have to say about it is, the detailed analysis still has to begin, I still have to work with the team, but let me be clear that at United there are a lot of good players around. We have to make them function as a team but definitely Ronaldo, he is a giant.”

Our View:

Cristiano Ronaldo has been one of the very few standout performers for Manchester United this season and Erik ten Hag could bring the best out of the Portuguese superstar next campaign.

The 37-year-old could take his performance to a different level next season, given he will be playing in a more structured system. However, it will be interesting to see whether he will be capable of pressing the opposition higher up the field or not, given pressing is a crucial part of the Dutchman’s philosophy.

Manchester United need to sign a young forward who will be deputising for the Portuguese superstar next campaign and will be keen on learning under the 37-year-old’s guidance.

Darwin Nunez and Victor Osimhen have been mentioned as the targets of Manchester United. However, they both want to play in the Champions League and the Red Devils will be unable to offer them that. So, it will be interesting to see how the club’s hierarchy will lure either of them to join the Old Trafford stadium.
