Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries as per the report in Italian outlet Calciomercato

The 26-year-old joined the Nerazzurri last summer from PSV Eindhoven and enjoyed a productive debut campaign at Giuseppe Meazza, scoring five goals and registering four assists in 33 Serie A appearances.

According to the report, despite signing Mazaraoui for free this summer, Bayern Munich are ready to go head-to-head against the Red Devils for Denzel Dumfries’ signature.

Although Manchester United haven’t made any concrete approach yet for the Netherlands international, the Nerazzurri would be open to selling their star in order to prevent the departure of highly-rated defender Alessandro Bastoni.

Inter have shown in the past that they don’t keep hold of their star players as Achraf Hakimi, Joao Cancelo and Romelu Lukaku are recent examples of that. So, Manchester United will have a clear pathway to signing Erik ten Hag’s compatriot if they desperately want to purchase the 26-year-old.

Our View:

Erik ten Hag has already told Aaron Wan-Bissaka that the Englishman is not in the 52-year-old’s plan for next season. And therefore, the Red Devils need to sign a replacement for the 23-years-old before the end of the summer transfer window.

Although Dumfries enjoyed a productive campaign in the recently concluded season and won a couple of cup trophies, his performance hasn’t been good enough to reflect that he can be the solution for the Old Trafford outfit’s fullback problems.

Meanwhile, apart from the Dutchman, the Red Devils are also linked with a move for RB Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele. So, it will be interesting to see whether either of these two players will end up at Manchester United or not.

After enduring a difficult season, the Red Devils fans will be hoping to experience some positive response from their beloved team next season. However, Erik ten Hag will need time to implement his philosophy in the squad.
