Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly getting frustrated with the club’s inability to finalize a quick deal for Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong as per the report in the English outlet The Athletic.
The newly appointed manager has prioritized a move for the 25-year-old this summer in order to address the Red Devils’ midfield issues. However, despite working on this deal for the past few weeks, the club’s hierarchy are yet to find an agreement with the Catalan giants.
According to the report, Manchester United and Barcelona are currently at an impasse regarding agreeing on the transfer fee. However, there is confidence that the deal will eventually get done this summer.
The report further claims that United’s inability to get this deal done quickly has left the new boss Erik ten Hag frustrated.
It is nothing new that Manchester United’s board are consuming a large amount of time in one deal early in the summer. They work similarly in every transfer window which makes it difficult to sign all the transfer targets before the start of the season.
Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag would have hoped to get all of his transfer targets before the start of the pre-season in order to work on his playing system and gel his squad together.
However, it is highly unlikely that his wish will be fulfilled. The Red Devils have already wasted a long time and haven’t signed a single player, where they need a squad overhaul this summer.
Therefore, if Manchester United end up signing all the targets this summer then Erik ten Hag will not have enough time to work in the training field with his full squad before the start of the season. So, the new boss will have to rely on the players who are already in the squad for the first few games of the next season.
