Football news latest: Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel nominates Steve Bruce as his preferred candidate for the interim managerial role.

Following a disappointing run of results from the Red Devils, the club hierarchy have decided to dismiss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Norwegian’s assistant Michael Carrick has been appointed as the caretaker manager until they can find a suitable candidate for the managerial role.

Speaking with CBS quoted by Metro, the former goalkeeper said that Manchester United should appoint someone who has a good personality and a good command in order to put pressure on the players. Schmeichel further stated that the Red Devils should start working on defending and tightening up the leaky defence.

United should appoint an interim manager who knows the club and the former Newcastle United boss Steven Bruce will be a perfect candidate for that role. Schmeichel said:

“I would love to have somebody who comes in now to put pressure on the players. A new voice, get them out there performing. Without making massive changes in style, or system, or something that the next one, the real one, the one they really want, has to come in and then start over again.

“Work on defending, not conceding goals. You cannot concede the number of goals we are doing and anybody who goes in there would need to start with that. You have to take small steps, you can’t just jump straight in and say we are going to play a pressing game. You can’t do that, the first thing you have to do is give confidence to everybody in the team.

“I just like the idea, if it is an interim, get somebody who knows the club. Get somebody who is known by the club as well. Somebody like Steve Bruce, that would be fantastic.”

Football news latest: Should Manchester United appoint Steve Bruce as an interim manager?

Football news latest: Appointing Steve Bruce as the interim boss will not be a very good decision for Manchester United. The former Newcastle boss has shown that he does not have the necessary tactical acumen to compete against the elite level manager and finishing outside the top four with this current squad will be a big disappointment for the record Premier League champions.

Recent reports are suggesting that PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is willing to take charge at Manchester United right now and if both clubs can find a solution then the Argentine boss would be happy to sign for the Old Trafford outfit.

However, given the Red Devils have previously stated that they are looking for an interim manager until the end of this season, it will be interesting to see what the club hierarchy will decide about the managerial position.
