Football news now: Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has said that the Red Devils are lacking qualities in their midfield which is preventing them from challenging for the big prizes.

Following disappointing performances under the former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Old Trafford hierarchy decided to dismiss the Norwegian boss and bring in Ralf Rangnick as an interim manager until the end of this campaign. However, the performance hasn’t improved under the German tactician and the Red Devils are continuing to display lacklustre football.

Speaking with BETFRED, Paul Parker has raised his concern about the commitment and the ability of the Red Devils players and said that the record Premier League champions have a very weak midfield. The former England defender said:

“A toolbox is about tools in the box, and these players are just not good enough. They want to walk about in Manchester city centre and say they play for Manchester United, not that they play for Manchester United and are winning things. They aren’t trying.

“Manchester United have got a relegation midfield… they are that bad. They’ve got names, but not what matters most – heart, passion and courage. The club is not in a good place.”

Football news now: What should Ralf Rangnick do to improve Manchester United?

Football news now: Manchester United are struggling with their midfield issue for the last couple of seasons. However, they failed to resolve that problem under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils invested quite heavily in their defence and the forward line in the last few years. But, didn’t invest much in midfield. They signed Bruno Fernandes who is an attacking player and signed Donny Van De Beek who has been given hardly enough chances to showcase his talent.

So, signing a new midfielder should be Ralf Rangnick’s number one priority in this January transfer window. Scott McTominay and Fred have already showcased their limitations over the last few years and it will be an unrealistic expectation to think that they will carry the Red Devils to the Premier League title.

Following a disappointing defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers last time around in the Premier League, Manchester United will welcome Aston Villa in the F.A Cup third round fixture on Monday night. Ralf Rangnick’s side will face the same opposition next weekend in the Premier League at Villa Park.
