Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone was full of praise for Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the Champions League encounter against Manchester United

The Portuguese superstar has been a stumbling block in the Rojiblancos’ quest for Champions League glory on several occasions. Simeone’s side fell short to Real Madrid on multiple situations in the knock-out stages of this competition when the forward was at the Spanish capital and history repeated itself after his move to Juventus.

Speaking with AS ahead of the game, Simeone labelled Ronaldo as a ‘monster’ and said that the United talisman is a great player and the forward has already been decisive when Atletico Madrid played against the 37-year-old’s side. Simeone stated:

“He is a monster, an extraordinary footballer and he has been decisive wherever he has been. He obviously has hurt us a lot whenever he has played with us. He has a team that accompanies him that is very good, United is a history of world football.”

Our View:

Atletico Madrid are enduring a difficult season this term and it will be an apt moment for the Red Devils to encounter the reigning La Liga Champions.

However, Manchester United haven’t had a great campaign either this season, as they have struggled to find consistency and they’ll have to be at their best to overcome the Spanish giants’ challenge.

The Rojiblancos are always a tough opponent in the knock-out stages of the Champions League and history shows that whoever managed to beat Atletico Madrid at this stage, tend to go deep into this competition.

Ralf Rangnick’s side should beat the Spanish giants over the two legs, given the Rojiblancos have looked disjointed defensively this term and have failed to find joy in front of the goal.
