Man United news Twitter: Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot was given a chance for Portugal national squad ahead of in form Joao Cancelo against the Republic of Ireland and the Red Devils fans were delighted with the youngster’s performance.
The 22-year-old started at the left-back position due to the injury absentee of Raphael Guerreiro and the Red Devils’ man displayed a promising performance, considering the full-back hasn’t started a game for Manchester United since the Champions League victory against Villarreal.
Although Dalot is a right-back by trade, he was deployed on the left-back position in past by former manager Stefano Pioli at AC Milan and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.
Meanwhile, despite the 22-year-old displaying a productive performance against the Irish side, Portugal had to settle for a 0-0 and a late red card to Pepe complicated the proceedings for Fernando Santo’s side.
Nevertheless, Diogo Dalot displayed a very good performance and the Manchester United fans were thrilled about his contribution to the national squad.
Man United news Twitter: Should Diogo Dalot get more chances with Manchester United?
Man United news Twitter: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has always expressed that he wants two players in every position to create healthy competition for the first team places. But, the Norwegian boss hardly ever rotates his squad to allow the fringe players to showcase their talents.
Regardless of the players’ recent form, the Red Devils boss keeps on playing the same players in every game. Therefore, the squad players always struggle with match fitness and fail to prove their worth whenever they are given opportunities.
So, apart from Diogo Dalot, Alex Telles and Donny Van De Beek should also get more game time at Manchester United. This will help the Norwegian boss to keep the squad fresh and bring the best out of every member of the squad.
Meanwhile, following a recent bad run of results, Manchester United are currently sitting sixth in the Premier League table with 17 points in 11 games. The Red Devils are nine points behind the leader Chelsea and five points behind the fourth-placed Liverpool. So, the Norwegian’s side will have to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible in order to keep their hopes alive for the Champions League spot next season as they are looking a long way away from winning the title.
