Man Utd transfer news latest: Newcastle United have reportedly made Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard their number one target for this January transfer window and ready to make him the highest-paid player of the club as per the report in English outlet The Times

The 28-year-old enjoyed a productive loan spell last term with West Ham United, scoring nine goals and notching up four assists in 16 Premier League appearances. However, the midfielder found it difficult to break into the Red Devils’ starting line-up this campaign, making only one start so far in all competitions.

According to the report, Newcastle United are eyeing a squad overhaul in this January transfer window and are ready to splash the cash in order to stay up in the top-flight football at the end of this season.

The Magpies are already plotting moves for several targets and have identified Jesse Lingard as the priority signing in this upcoming transfer window. The report further claims that Eddie Howe’s side are ready to offer the Englishman a four and a half year contract with a salary package of £100,000 per week.

Man Utd transfer news latest: Should Manchester United sell Lingard in this January transfer window?

Man Utd transfer news latest: Cashing in on Jesse Lingard will be a shrewd decision from Manchester United. The midfielder only has six months remaining in his current contract and selling him in January will help the Red Devils to generate some transfer fee.

The 28-year-old has failed to break into the starting eleven since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes and given the attacking talents Red Devils have at the moment, it will be the right decision to offload the midfielder.

However, it will be interesting to see how the new manager sees Lingard for his style of football. Rangnick wants to play high-press football and the England International could be a perfect option for that.

So, the German boss might not want to give up an asset like Lingard whose energy will be handy in terms of pressing the opposition higher up the field. However, the Englishman might not want to hang around if he does not get regular first-team football at the Old Trafford stadium.
