Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni as per the report in Italian outlet Gazzetta

Following a stellar campaign last term, the 23-years-old has showcased consistency and enjoyed yet another productive campaign this season. The youngster helped Nerazzurri in winning the Scudetto last term but failed narrowly this season to the city rival AC Milan.

Meanwhile, having qualified for the Champions League, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to invest in the squad this summer. Antonio Conte is reportedly eyeing a move for the Italian star, given the 23-years-old was an integral part of the former Nerazzurri boss’ success at the Giuseppe Meazza last season.

However, according to the report, Manchester United are ahead of Spurs in the race for the highly-rated defender. The new United boss Erik ten Hag wants a defender who is good with the ball and tactically sound.

The report further claims that Inter will not consider anything less than €60 million for their star man and the Red Devils already know about the Nerazzurri’s demands.

Our View:

Manchester United are in search of a new defender this summer and the Red Devils have been linked with several defenders around Europe. Fabrizio Romano has stated that the record Premier League champions are discussing Ajax’s youngster Jurrien Timber, while Pau Torres is also on the list.

So, Alessandro Bastoni might not be a realistic target for Erik ten Hag. Antonio Conte has previously worked with the youngster last season. And the Italy international could be a more realistic option for Spurs this summer.

Nevertheless, the 23-years-old has showcased his talent in the Serie A over the past few campaigns. And the defender could be a great acquisition for Manchester United.

However, it is yet to see whether Erik ten Hag would want to go for the Italian defender or not. Having failed to qualify for the Champions League, Manchester United might struggle to persuade the 23-years-old to join the Old Trafford stadium.
