Manchester United are reportedly preparing to go head-to-head with Real Madrid and Barcelona in pursuit of RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo as per the report in Spanish outlet El Nacional

The 23-years-old joined the Bundesliga side back in 2020 from Dinamo Zagreb for around £17.8 million. Since then, the midfielder has made 48 appearances in the German top-flight, scoring eight goals and notching up 10 assists. The Spaniard was also part of the Spain national squad that reached the Euro 2020 semi-final.

According to the report, Barcelona are keen on bringing La Masía graduate back to Camp Nou but a deal is looking tough as the arch-rival Real Madrid, and Manchester United are also in the race for Dani Olmo.

The report further claims that the Spain international was eager to join his boyhood club but the arrival of Xavi as the new manager has complicated this deal as the Barca boss hasn’t made his decision yet regarding a new transfer and the midfielder is also starting to have second thoughts on moving back to Barcelona. Therefore, it will clear up the way for Manchester United or Real Madrid to snatch the midfielder in January.

Will Dani Olmo be a right fit for Manchester United?

Before joining RB Leipzig back in January 2020, Manchester United were linked with a move for Dani Olmo but the former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided not to sign the 23-years-old at that time.

However, following the arrival of Ralf Rangnick, the Red Devils have been linked with quite a few RB Leipzig midfielders in recent weeks and it will be interesting to see if any of these players will end up at the Old Trafford stadium or not at the end of the January transfer window.

Manchester United currently have enough firepower in their attacking position and in order to bring in some new faces, Rangnick will have to offload some players. Therefore, it is looking highly unlikely that the Red Devils will sign Olmo in January, as the new manager will not make any decision without assessing his full squad.

Meanwhile, following a 1-1 draw against Young Boys in the Champions League, Manchester United will face Norwich City in their next game in the Premier League. The Old Trafford outfit displayed a poor performance against the Swiss side on Wednesday night but will be hoping to get back to winning ways against the Canaries on Saturday evening.
