Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of appointing Erik Ten Hag as the next permanent manager as per the report in ESPN

The Red Devils are in search of a new permanent manager after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in November last year. Mauricio Pochettino and Erik Ten Hag were the frontrunners to take charge at Old Trafford, while Luis Enrique and Julian Lopetegui were also on the club’s wishlist.

However, as per the report, Manchester United have decided to appoint Erik Ten Hag as the new manager and the Dutchman will take charge at Old Trafford at the end of this season. Football director John Murtough, technical director Darren Fletcher, CEO Richard Arnold and Joel Glazer were involved in this process, while Arnold and Joel Glazer made the final decision to go with the Ajax boss.

The 52-year-old is reportedly the cheaper option which influenced the Red Devils hierarchy in appointing the Ajax boss despite Mauricio Pochettino were leading the race earlier.

Our View:

Appointing Erik Ten Hag will be a shrewd decision by Manchester United. The majority of the Old Trafford faithful were raising their voice in favour of the Dutchman and in the end, the club’s hierarchy decided to listen to their fans.

However, just the 52-year-old’s appointment will not guarantee any success for the record Premier League champions. The Ajax boss is reportedly asking for full power in the transfer window and without the full power to implement his philosophy, there is no point in appointing a tactically shrewd manager.

Meanwhile, Erik Ten Hag will bring a clear progressive playing style to the Old Trafford stadium which the Red Devils were lacking since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

So, it will be interesting to see how Manchester United will return to the summit under the guidance of Erik Ten Hag. The Red Devils faithful will have to keep their patience as the Dutchman will need time to implement his philosophy.
