Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick reportedly believes that Anthony Elanga could replace wantaway star Anthony Martial as per the report in English outlet The Telegraph(via Mirror).

The 26-year-old has handed in a transfer request after being frustrated by the lack of game time at the Old Trafford stadium, starting only four times in all competitions this season and scoring a solitary goal.

According to the report, Manchester United are prepared to offer a long-term contract to Anthony Elanga after the interim boss Ralf Rangnick is impressed by the youngster’s performance in training.

The 19-year-old has already made two appearances in the first two games under the German tactician after breaking into the first-team squad towards the back end of the last season and has straightaway impressed the Old Trafford faithful with the tendency to score important goals.

Can Elanga replace Anthony Martial at Manchester United?

The agent of Anthony Martial has earlier revealed that his client is looking to move away from the Old Trafford stadium, so, there is no point in persuading the 26-year-old to stay if he has already made his mind, therefore, cashing in on the Frenchman will be the right decision from Manchester United.

The Red Devils have enough firepower in their attacking department. Therefore, the Old Trafford outfit can afford to sell the forward in this January transfer window and invest the fee in the other areas of the pitch.

It will be interesting to see if Anthony Elanga can replace the Frenchman or not. The 19-year-old has already shown glimpses of his talent in this short period and should continue to develop under the tutelage of Ralf Rangnick and Cristiano Ronaldo in order to establish himself as a starter for the Old Trafford outfit.

Meanwhile, following the covid outbreak in the Manchester United squad, the game against Brighton has also been called off after midweek’s game against Brentford was postponed. Apart from this game, four more weekend’s fixtures have also been cancelled. So, the situation is getting complicated for the Premier League and it will be interesting to see if the league authority can continue playing games in this tough situation or not.
