The 28-year-old joined the west London club back in 2017 from Serie A side AS Roma for around £30 million. However, the defender struggled to find regular first-team action under former manager Frank Lampard but, following the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, the Germany international has found his feet at Stamford Bridge, helping the club to win the Champions League last term.
According to the report, Chelsea ace Antonio Rudiger is in high demand among the European giants as the defender’s contract will expire at the end of this season and the two parties are way apart from agreeing on a long-term contract.
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich had already shown interest in signing the experienced defender and now Manchester United have also entered the race to sign the 28-year-old.
However, as per the Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich are not ready to meet the player’s demands and could backtrack from this deal. But, Real Madrid are keen on signing the highly-rated defender.
Can Manchester United win the race for Chelsea ace Antonio Rudiger?
Signing Antonio Rudiger will be a great acquisition for Manchester United. The Red Devils have struggled with their defensive issues so far this season and the Germany international could solve that problem for Ralf Rangnick’s side if the record Premier League champions can sign the 28-year-old.
Although the Red Devils bought Raphael Varane to seal their leaky defence, the defender has struggled with injuries since arriving at Old Trafford, making only nine appearances in all competitions. Harry Maguire hasn’t had a great season either, and therefore, the Red Devils have already conceded 33 goals in 23 games in all competitions.
So, signing Antonio Rudiger will be a perfect addition to Manchester United’s squad as the defender is quick, strong and brilliant in the air and his temperament would be a great asset for Ralf Rangnick’s team.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s game against Brentford has been postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the Red Devils squad. Apart from United, many clubs have reported covid positive cases in recent weeks. The situation is getting complicated for the Premier League, and if the cases continue to rise then the league authority might have to suspend the season.
