Manchester United are reportedly showing interest in Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo as per the report in Spanish outlet Sports

The 22-year-old joined La Liga giants back in 2018 from Uruguayan club Boston River and made his first-team debut the following year. He has established himself as a starter at the Camp Nou stadium this season, making 17 appearances in the league and scoring three goals.

The Red Devils have been created with an interest for the youngster amid the continuous negotiations to extend his deal with the Catalan giants. And, as per the report, Ralf Rangnick’s side and Chelsea are ready to offer a double financial package to the Uruguayan.

However, as per Mundo Deportivo, although Manchester United are showing a concrete interest in Araujo, the player is eyeing to extend his contract with the Blaugrana.

Our View:

Ronald Araujo would have been a great acquisition for Manchester United. The defender is quick, strong, good at defending and also excellent in the air. Therefore, the Uruguayan has almost every attribute to become a world-class defender in future.

However, it is highly unlikely that the Red Devils hierarchy will be able to persuade the 22-year-old to join the Old Trafford outfit. Linking players with Manchester United have been a recurring ploy from the agents to earn a better contract for their clients and this seems one of those tactics from the Uruguayan’s side.

So, although the 22-year-old would have been a perfect candidate to partner Raphael Varane at the heart of the defence for the Old Trafford outfit, there might be very little truth about this speculation.

Meanwhile, despite showcasing a much-improved performance against Middlesbrough in the F.A Cup fourth round fixture, Manchester United endured a disappointing defeat and have now squandered their only realistic hope of winning silverware at the end of this season.
