The 26-year-old joined the Biancocelesti back in 2015 from KRC Genk for around £13 million. Meanwhile, The midfielder is enjoying a productive season under the new manager Maurizio Sarri, scoring five goals and assisting as many times in 17 Serie A appearances.
According to the report, Manchester United are keen on signing Lazio star Milinkovic-Savic in order to replace Paul Pogba who is increasingly likely to leave the club at the end of this season.
The report further claims that the Serbia international’s agent and the Biancocelesti president Claudio Rotito have already agreed to allow the midfielder’s departure if a right offer will arrive in the upcoming transfer window and the Italian side are reportedly asking for a fee of around €75(£64)million.
Landing the highly-rated midfielder might not be easy for the Red Devils, given Juventus are also interested in signing the 26-year-old. But a move to the record Serie A champions is looking unlikely, due to the Old Lady of Turin’s financial difficulties.
Should Manchester United sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic?
Signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could be a very good addition to Manchester United midfield. But, it is not clear yet if the Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri would grant a departure of his main midfielder.
The Red Devils are looking to address their midfield situation in the upcoming winter transfer window and have already been linked with quite a few names. But, the Serbian is not the exact type of player that Ralf Rangnick is eyeing in January.
The 26-year-old is a more attacking-minded midfielder and the Old Trafford club are looking for a holding midfielder. So, signing Milinkovic-Savic might not be a wise decision from Manchester United.
Meanwhile, after Monday’s Premier League meeting, the clubs have decided to continue playing the games. So, Ralf Rangnick’s side should face Newcastle United in their next game on 27th December.
