Having joined the Argentine side back in 2015, the 21-year-old made his senior debut in 2018 under Marcelo Gallardo. The youngster is enjoying a stellar campaign this term with Los Millonarios, scoring 18 goals and notching up six assists in 21 league appearances.
According to the report, Manchester United are looking to sign Julian Alvarez to replace Edinson Cavani who is heavily linked with a move away from the Old Trafford stadium in January.
The report further claims that the Argentine forward has a contract until December 2022 with River Plate and there is a release of €20milliom(£17) in his current contract. However, securing a deal for the highly-rated youngster might not be easy for the record Premier League champions as Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich are all keen on signing the 21-year-old.
Will Julian Alvarez be a good fit for Manchester United?
Signing Julian Alvarez could be a great acquisition for Manchester United. The midfielder has already showcased his talent in the Argentine league and the Old Trafford outfit will be hoping that he can replicate the same performance in English football if the Red Devils hierarchy can secure a deal for the 21-year-old.
However, it will be tough for the youngster to perform in the Premier League which is arguably one of the toughest leagues in the world. The forward is only 5 feet 7 inches tall and therefore, the youngster might struggle to perform in the centre forward position against the strong defenders.
The forward can be deployed on wide areas. So, the flanks could be the perfect position for the youngster, but given the Red Devils play with the 4-2-2-2 formation under Ralf Rangnick, the youngster might struggle to find the right position for himself.
Therefore, signing Julian Alvarez might not be a good fit for Manchester United. But, signing a youngster who is performing excellently in other leagues is always a tempting proposition for any club. So, it will be interesting to see what the Red Devils hierarchy decide to do about the 21-year-old.
