Manchester United are reportedly showing active interest in signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot as per the report in Italian outlet Calciomercato.
The 27-year-old joined the Bianconeri back in 2019 for free after falling out with his former club PSG. Meanwhile, despite playing regularly at the Allianz Stadium, the Frenchman has failed to impress the manager Massimiliano Allegri.
With only one year remaining in his current contract, Juventus could opt to cash in on their star man in fear of losing him for free next summer.
According to the report, Manchester United have taken ‘concrete steps’ to sign Adrien Rabiot. However, they will have to face competition from other Premier League clubs such as Newcastle United and Chelsea. The Ligue 1 champions PSG are also looking to bring their former midfielder back to the French capital.
Meanwhile, the report also claims that negotiations with Juventus will not be a problem for the Red Devils, given that Bianconeri will ask for a fee of around €15 million for their midfielder. However, the player might not be entertained by the prospect of joining the Old Trafford stadium.
Erik ten Hag has reportedly keen on signing Frenkie De Jong, while Portugal international Vitinha has also been mentioned as a potential target for Manchester United.
Therefore, it is highly unlikely that the Red Devils will enter the race to sign Adrien Rabiot this summer. The record Premier League champions tried to land the 27-year-old at Old Trafford back in 2019, however, the player in the end opted to join the Serie A giants.
Rabiot had gotten in trouble in the past for his attitude and therefore, Manchester United should not be involved in this deal.
Meanwhile, there are concerns among the fan base due to the club’s lack of activity in the transfer market. Manchester United promised they will back Erik ten Hag in the transfer market this summer, however, with only less than two weeks remaining to return to the pre-season, the Red Devils are yet to make a move, while their rivals have already strengthened their squad.
So, it will be interesting to see how many new faces will join the club this summer, given the Red Devils need a squad overhaul.
