Manchester United’s dressing room is reportedly divided about the potential appointment of Erik Ten Hag as per the report in English outlet Manchester Evening News.
The Red Devils are in search of a new permanent manager, while Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag and PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino are reportedly the frontrunners to take charge at Old Trafford.
However, as per the report in MEN, Manchester United players are not keen on working under the Dutchman. A few players are delighted about the possibility of working under the 52-year-old’s tutelage, but other players are not entertained by the prospect of working under the Ajax boss.
The report further stated that the majority of the players want Mauricio Pochettino to become the next Manchester United manager. However, the club’s hierarchy are plotting a move to make Erik Ten Hag the successor of Ralf Rangnick.
Appointing Erik Ten Hag will be a shrewd decision by Manchester United. However, it is baffling to hear that the United players are expressing their views on who the club should appoint as the next permanent manager.
The Red Devils’ hierarchy have previously made numerous bad decisions in appointing managers and also did similar actions in the transfer market. However, if they appoint Erik Ten Hag and give him the freedom to make decisions in the transfer market, then the Old Trafford faithful could get optimistic about their future.
Meanwhile, following their elimination from every cup competition, the Red Devils have now extended their trophy drought up to five seasons. The record Premier League champions are in seventh in the Premier League table with 51 points in 30 games.
They are looking likely to miss out on the opportunity to finish in the top four spot and it will be a monumental task for the next boss to take the club back where they belong.
