Manchester United are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Barcelona duo Frenkie De Jong and Memphis Depay as per the report in Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Following the appointment of Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils have been linked with a move for the Dutch midfielder and a few reports were claiming that the incoming United boss is keen on reuniting with his former players at the Old Trafford stadium.
According to the report, Manchester United are ready to offer around €100 million in order to persuade the Barcelona hierarchy into selling De Jong and Memphis Depay. The report also claims that the Catalan giants could be ready to cash in on the aforementioned two players.
Barcelona are also looking to stay active in the summer transfer window and they want to raise funds by selling players. So, Manchester United could break a deal for De Jong and Memphis Depay if they meet the Blaugrana’s demand.
Signing Frenkie De Jong will be a very good acquisition for Manchester United. The Red Devils are in search of a new holding midfielder and the Dutchman will be an apt option to play in that role under Erik ten Hag.
However, on the other hand, purchasing Memphis Depay might not be a shrewd decision by the club’s hierarchy. The Dutchman already had a disastrous spell at the Old Trafford stadium and he hasn’t been able to showcase enough in La Liga to reflect that things will be different this time around.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will have to address multiple issues this summer and they can not afford to spend on a player who is struggling to showcase his best this season. So, while De Jong could be a very good addition to the Red Devils squad, Depay might struggle to showcase his best once again at the Old Trafford stadium.
Manchester United are set to miss out on their opportunity to qualify for the Champions League next season. And it will be interesting to see how they will be able to persuade their first choice targets to join the Old Trafford stadium.
