Manchester United are reportedly set to offer a new contract to Luke Shaw as per the report from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Having secured a new deal for Bruno Fernandes last week, the Red Devils hierarchy are now planning to extend the Englishman’s contract. The fullback enjoyed a great time last season, however, he has failed to replicate the same performance this term.
As per Romano, Luke Shaw currently has a contract until 2023 with an option to extend the deal for one more year. However, Manchester United do not want to hang around and are ready to open talks with the defender’s representative regarding a contract extension.
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford is also in the same situation as the former Southampton man. But, the forward is reportedly considering his future at Old Trafford due to lack of game.
After a productive performance last season, it is concerning for Manchester United that Luke Shaw failed to showcase consistency this term. However, the Englishman’s involvement in the summer’s European Championship has restricted him from earning proper pre-season training which might also be a reason for the fullback’s downfall this season.
Meanwhile, apart from Shaw, Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford have also struggled to showcase their best this season and they were also involved in the European Championship last summer.
The club’s internal problems regarding the managerial situation has also restricted the players from setting down. So, it could also be a cause of United’s downfall this season.
Erik Ten Hag is reportedly set to become the new manager for next season. The Dutchman has asked for the full power of making the decision in the transfer market and giving away the new contracts is also a part of that process. So, it is believed that the Dutchman has given the green light regarding the new contract to Luke Shaw.
