Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a swoop for LOSC Lille defender Sven Botman to sign him under the noses of AC Milan and Newcastle United as per the report in Italian outlet TUTTOmarketWEB

The 22-year-old is reportedly set to leave the Ligue 1 outfit this summer. And it was thought the Rossoneri and the Magpies would go head-to-head against each other to sign the highly-rated defender.

The Tyneside club were heavily linked with a move in January, however, they failed to secure a deal for the former Ajax man. Meanwhile, their interest hasn’t cooled down and are ready to reignite their interest in the centre-back this summer.

On the other hand, Stefano Pioli’s side already agreed on personal terms with the player’s camp and the defender was ready to commit his future to Giuseppe Meazza. However, the Rossoneri are yet to agree to a price with Lille and it is reported that Les Dogues would want around €30 million(£25 million).

But, due to the ownership issue, the Serie A champions are currently unable to finalize this deal. Manchester United are interested in Botman and could manage to hijack the deal from AC Milan if the Rossoneri do not act quickly.

Our View:

Manchester United are in search of a new defender, while Jurrien Timber, Pau Torres and Alessandro Bastoni have been mentioned as potential targets along with Sven Botman.

The Red Devils need to strengthen their backline following a disappointing season, conceding 57 goals in the Premier League. They leaked four more goals than the relegated side Burnley.

Harry Maguire displayed a woeful performance in the recently concluded term, while Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane failed to showcase their best as well. So, strengthening the defence has become an absolute necessity for Erik ten Hag this summer.

Sven Botman could be a perfect acquisition for Manchester United. The defender displayed his talent in France by helping his side in winning the title, demolishing PSG’s dominance.
