Manchester United are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing River Plate star Enzo Fernandez as per the report in Sports Illustrated

The 21-year-old has started the new campaign brilliantly for the Argentine giants, scoring four goals and notching up three assists in 11 appearances in all competitions.

According to the report, Manchester United are ready to go for Enzo Fernandez. The midfielder is currently contracted with River Plate until 2025 and the youngster has a release clause of €25 million.

Meanwhile, city rival Manchester City are also keen on signing the highly-rated midfielder after signing Julian Alvarez from Los Millonarios. However, Pep Guardiola’s side are currently prioritizing a move for a new striker and Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Braut Haaland is their priority signing.

Our View:

Manchester United should act quickly and sign the talented youngster. The Red Devils were credited with an interest for Julian Alvarez in January, however, Manchester City moved swiftly and finalized a deal for the forward. So, the record Premier League champions can not afford to make the same mistakes twice.

Impending manager Erik Ten Hag will be looking for a squad overhaul in the summer. Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata are set to leave the club at the end of this and the futures of Cristiano Ronaldo, Eric Bailly, Anthony Martial and Dean Henderson are yet to be resolved.

So, rebuilding the squad with young talents will be a shrewd decision and signing Enzo Fernandez would be a very good addition to the Manchester United squad. The youngster can score goals from midfield and also has the efficiency to create chances for the attackers.

However, with Bruno Fernandes already in the squad and Donny Van De Beek returning from loan at the end of this season, signing yet another attacking midfielder might not be the right decision by the club’s hierarchy.
