Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Ajax Amsterdam defender Jurrien Timber as per the report from transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The 20-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign this term at the Johan Cruyff Arena, scoring three goals and registering 16 clean sheets in 30 Eredivisie appearances, helping his side to clinch a third league title under Erik ten Hag’s tenure.
According to the report, Manchester United have already made contact with the representatives of Jurrien Timber and the 20-year-old defender could follow Erik ten Hag to the Old Trafford stadium, given the Red Devils are ‘seriously interested’ in the youngster.
Plettenberg also stated that Bayern Munich have also inquired about the defender but a move to the Red half of Manchester is looking likely for Timber. The journalist tweeted:
“Update Timber: FC Bayern inquired about him but it is said that the 20 y/o could join Ten Hag to Manchester United! Talks with his management have taken place. Manchester United is seriously interested.”
Jurrien Timber could be a perfect acquisition for Manchester United. The youngster has all attributes to become a world-class defender, given he is quick, can read the game, efficient in playing threading passes between the and also good in defending.
The defender has already enjoyed success under Erik ten Hag and the youngster could be an apt fit for the Red Devils’ backline. However, the biggest concern will be his physical stature, given he is 182 cm tall and therefore, he could struggle to find success in the Premier League.
The 20-year-old was an integral part of Ajax’s success this term and Erik ten Hag is looking to replicate the same at Old Trafford stadium by bringing the highly-rated defender.
The centre-back’s versatility will be an asset for Manchester United’s boss as he can play in the fullback position as well. With the Red Devils facing issues with their fullback position, the Dutchman could be deployed in the right-back position next term should he join the Old Trafford outfit this summer.
