Sevilla are reportedly closing in on a loan move for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial as per the report in Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano

The 26-year-old handed in a transfer request last month after becoming frustrated with lack of game time at the Old Trafford stadium. The forward has made only 11 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring a solitary goal.

Fabrizio Romano has tweeted two different posts and stated that Manchester United have reached an agreement with Sevilla to let Martial join La Liga giants on loan until the end of this season. The Spanish club will cover the Frenchman’s salary and there haven’t been included any buy option in the deal.

The journalist also stated that the former Monaco man was keen on joining the Rojiblancos and the Spanish side were working on this deal for the last two months. Romano wrote:

“Anthony Martial from Manchester United to Sevilla, done deal and here we go! Agreement reached tonight between the two clubs. Player has accepted, Sevilla was his priority. Sevilla will cover his salary until June. Martial will fly to Spain in the next hours.

“Anthony Martial will be in Sevilla in the coming hours. Monchi was working on this deal since two months – deal sealed with Manchester United, straight loan and no buy option. Confirmed.”

Can Anthony Martial showcase his best at Sevilla?

Letting Anthony Martial go is the right decision by Manchester United. The forward wanted to leave and there was no point in trying to persuade the Frenchman to stay at the Old Trafford stadium.

The 26-year-old hasn’t been able to showcase his best consistently enough in the Premier League since joining the record English champions and it was a good business from the Red Devils hierarchy to offload the Frenchman from the wage bill.

Manchester United have enough firepower in their attacking department and therefore, they can afford to offload some attacking talents. Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard is also heavily linked with a move away from the Old Trafford stadium and Newcastle United are tipped to be the likeliest destination for the Englishman.

So, it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils hierarchy try to sign some new faces or not following Martial’s impending departure. The record Premier League champions need strengthening in their midfield department in order to mount a challenge for the top four finish.
