Manchester United have reportedly started negotiations with Zinedine Zidane over the managerial position, as per the report from Portuguese transfer expert Pedro Almeida.
After finishing second in the Premier League last term, the Red Devils haven’t been able to build upon success from there. They signed world-class talents like Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer transfer window to improve the squad and challenge for the big titles but it hasn’t panned out quite well for the Old Trafford outfit.
The performance deteriorated drastically and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side looked disjointed since the beginning of the campaign. So, the Norwegian’s position at the Old Trafford stadium is under a knife-edge.
According to the report from Pedro Almeida, Manchester United have made the first move to bring the former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane to the Old Trafford stadium. The journalist further claimed that persuading the Frenchman might not be easy for the Premier League giants, given the 49-year-old is eyeing for the French National team’s managerial role. Almeida wrote on Instagram:
‘Talks on between Zinedine Zidane and Manchester United. Attention the deal is difficult because the French coach’s preference right now is to coach a national team.’
Can Manchester United lure Zinedine Zidane?
Bringing Zinedine Zidane to the Old Trafford stadium would be a shrewd decision from Manchester United. However, the report from transfer Guru Fabrizio Romano suggests that the Frenchman has no interest in succeeding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at this stage of the season.
The Red Devils are also looking to give the Norwegian boss more time and do not want to make a decision on the 48-years-old’s future unless the Champions League qualification is in jeopardy.
So, it will be interesting to see how Solskjaer will turn his fortune around at the Old Trafford stadium. The manager has come close to sacking in almost every season and the Norwegian boss has managed to string positive results to secure his position on every occasion.
Therefore, it will be fascinating to see if the Norwegian manager can bring the Red Devils on track or not this term. However, the recent performances aren’t promising at all for the Old Trafford manager.
