Manchester United are reportedly showing concrete interest in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong as per the report in ESPN

Despite enjoying a productive campaign this term, the 25-year-old is on the chopping block at Camp Nou this summer due to the club’s financial difficulties.

The Blaugrana president Joan Laporta and manager Xavi Hernandez have expressed their desire to keep hold of their star man. However, they also hinted that the club’s current financial situation could force them to sell the Dutchman.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils’ new boss Erik ten Hag is prioritizing signing a new midfielder this summer and the Dutchman is high on his wishlist.

According to the report, Manchester United are showing strong interest in signing Frenkie De Jong amid interest from other suitors like Bayern Munich, PSG and Manchester City.

The report further claims that the Blaugrana seemingly want a fee of around £75 million. However, the Red Devils’ hierarchy are ready to test the Catalan giants’ resources and are eyeing to settle the deal for a lower price.

Our View:

Signing Frenkie De Jong will be a very good acquisition for Manchester United. The midfielder joined the Blaugrana with the intention of replacing Sergio Busquets at Camp Nou. However, the 25-year-old found himself playing out of position.

Meanwhile, the Dutchman will be given the chance to play in his preferred position at Old Trafford if he were to join the record Premier League champions. And he will have the opportunity to play under Erik ten Hag under whom the midfielder enjoyed the most success of his career so far.

Frenkie De Jong will be a mainstay in the engine room at Manchester United. Fred and Scott McTominey have tried their best to make up for a lack of specialist defensive midfielder in the squad. But, they have showcased their frailties as well.

So, signing Frenkie De Jong will be an apt choice for Manchester United. With Nemanja Matic ready to leave the club this summer, the Dutchman will be an upgrade to the Serbian in midfield for Erik ten Hag’s side.
