After returning to winning ways against Aston Villa in F.A Cup, Manchester United will travel to Villa Park to encounter Steven Gerrard’s side once again on Saturday evening.
The Red Devils displayed a promising performance for the first half an hour on Monday night, but could not keep the same tempo throughout the 90 minutes.
Ralf Rangnick’s side will be desperate to keep their winning run going in order to stay in the hunt for the top four finish. United are currently sitting seventh in the Premier League table with 31 points in 19 games, six points behind the fourth-placed West Ham United, having played two fewer games.
Manchester United team news against Aston Villa:
As per the team news provided by the club’s website, having picked up the fifth booking in the defeat against Wolverhampton, Luke Shaw and Scott Mctominay will be suspended in this fixture against the Villans.
Harry Maguire was out in the last two encounters due to a slight injury and might return to contention in this fixture. Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t feature in the F.A Cup tie along with Jadon Sancho due to minor issues and both should be ready to involve this weekend. Diogo Dalot suffered a cut in the previous game but should be fit enough to start this game.
Phil Jones is the other defender who wasn’t in the matchday squad due to a calf injury and will be assessed ahead of the game. Eric Bailly has joined the Ivory Coast national squad for the AFCON and won’t be available for the next few weeks and Paul Pogba will also be sidelined for a thigh problem.
David De Gea will keep his place between the sticks as he has been the most consistent performer for the Red Devils this season.
Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof should continue at the heart of the defence. Diogo Dalot could start ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alex Telles will replace Shaw on the other side of the full-back slot.
Nemanja Matic should start alongside Fred in the midfield pivot role. Rangnick has started most of the games with his preferred 4-2-2-2 formation but changed that in the last game and went with the 4-2-3-1 formation. So, it will be interesting to see how he approaches this game.
Bruno Fernandes should start in the attacking midfield position, Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood might be the two wide wingers for the Red Devils, with Cristiano Ronaldo leading the line.
