After an important victory against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, Manchester United will welcome Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.
The Red Devils came away victorious against Spurs by 3-2 courtesy of a hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo. This victory will give Ralf Rangnick’s side a much-needed boost ahead of this crucial encounter.
Meanwhile, the first leg ended in a stalemate between these two sides. The Rojiblancos dominated the game and had multiple chances to distance themselves from the record Premier League champions ahead of the second leg. However, they only managed to score one goal and the lead was wiped out by Anthony Elanga’s contribution ten minutes from time.
Manchester United team news against Atletico Madrid:
Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes have returned to training after missing out on the victory against Antonio Conte’s side on Saturday. However, while the midfield duo is in contention for selection in this encounter, the fullback is still in doubt.
David De Gea will keep his place between the sticks and Raphael Varane should commence alongside Victor Lindelof at the heart of defence in place of Harry Maguire who is continuing to struggle this season. Diogo Dalot is expected to start on the right-back and Alex Telles will start on the opposite side.
Scott McTominay will return straight back into the starting eleven and Fred could start alongside the Scotsman in the midfield pivot role. Paul Pogba might keep his place in the attacking midfield position.
Jadon Sancho has started to showcase his talent in recent weeks and he will keep his place on the left-wing and Marcus Rashford will start on the opposite flank. Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the line for Manchester United.
