Manchester United team news and predicted lineup against Atletico Madrid

Manchester United will face Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday at the Wanda Metropolitano. 

Having defeated the adversaries Leeds United, the Red Devils will be full of confidence ahead of this crucial tie. Meanwhile, the Spanish side are also coming into this game following an important victory against Osasuna. 

Both sides are enduring a difficult season this term as the reigning La Liga Champions are currently sitting in fifth in the league table with 42 points in 25 games and Manchester United are fourth in the Premier League with 46 points in 26 games. 

Manchester United team news against Atletico Madrid:

Edinson Cavani will be in doubt due to a groin issue, while Eric Bailly could return after recovering from ankle issue. Nemanja Matic was among the substitutes against the Peacocks after recovering from injury and could be fit enough to feature in this fixture. 

Predicted Line-up:

David De Gea will start in goal against his former club. Raphael Varane should return to the starting eleven and Victor Lindelof’s display against Leeds should earn him a place in defence ahead of Harry Maguire in this crucial encounter. 

Aaron Wan-Bissaka displayed a promising performance against Marcelo Bielsa’s side and he could keep his place on the right-back position and Luke Shaw will start on the opposite side. 

Scott McTominay will be the holding midfielder and Paul Pogba might start alongside the Scotsman. Bruno Fernandes should commence in the advanced midfielder role. 

Jadon Sancho has started to showcase his best in recent weeks and he will be accompanied by Marcus Rashford on the flanks. Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the line for Manchester United.
