Manchester United are reportedly looking to strengthen three key areas in the summer transfer window as per the report in English outlet The Telegraph(via Metro).
The Red Devils are still unclear about their managerial situation and Erik Ten Hag is reportedly leading the race to become the next permanent manager. On the other hand, it is not clear yet which European competition they are going to play next season as their Champions League qualification is in jeopardy.
According to the report, regardless of the current circumstances, Manchester United are looking to sign a new striker and two midfielders in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The report didn’t mention the players who are on the Red Devils’ wishlist. However, it will depend on their Champions League qualification. Declan Rice is among the names who are high on the list for the record Premier League champions, but it will be difficult to price the midfielder away from the London Stadium as the Hammers are asking for a fee of around £150 million for their star man.
Manchester United are struggling with their midfield issue over the past few campaigns and they also have had some trouble with their striker situation in recent years. The Red Devils hierarchy signed Edinson Cavani back in 2020 before signing Cristiano Ronaldo last summer. However, neither of them is a long-term solution.
With Edinson Cavani expecting to leave the club at the end of this season and Cristiano Ronaldo might also leave if the Red Devils fail to secure a place in the Champions League, signing a new striker should be top of the wishlist for the club’s hierarchy.
Meanwhile, Nemanja Matic is the only specialist defensive midfielder Manchester United currently have in their squad, therefore, signing a new holding midfielder will be a shrewd decision.
On the other hand, with Paul Pogba’s future hanging in the air, signing a replacement for the Frenchman will also be a good decision by the club’s hierarchy.
