Newcastle United are reportedly eager to sign Manchester United star Jesse Lingard in this January transfer window as per the report in the English outlet Daily Mail.
After enjoying a stellar campaign with West Ham on loan last term, the Englishman has failed to replicate the same performance at the Old Trafford stadium this season, scoring two goals and assisting one time in 13 appearances in all competitions.
According to the report, Newcastle United have made a second loan offer for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard after the first offer was turned down by the Old Trafford club. However, the Red Devils hierarchy are willing to sell their academy graduate in this transfer window, given the 29-year-old’s contract will expire at the end of this season.
The report further claims that although Lingard is willing to join the Magpies in January, he would only sign for the Tyneside club on loan. The St. James Park hierarchy are optimistic about finalizing a deal for the England International but Ralf Rangnick’s side believe that the 29-year-old will remain at the club until the end of this season.
Should Manchester United allow Jesse Lingard to join Newcastle on loan?
Cashing in on Jesse Lingard would be perfect for Manchester United. The midfielder’s current contract will expire at the end of this season and the Englishman has decided not to extend his stay at the Old Trafford stadium beyond this season. However, it is tough for the Red Devils to find a suitor for Jesse Lingard who would want to pay a transfer fee, given he will be available for free in six months.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United are in danger of relegation from the English top-flight and no player would want to commit their long-term future with the Magpies. So, Eddie Howe’s side might have to pay a high loan fee in order to persuade the Red Devils to allow the 29-year-old to leave on loan.
Ralf Rangnick wants to bring in a defensive midfielder in January. And the Red Devils will have to offload some fringe players before signing some new faces. So, it will be interesting to see what Manchester United decide about their midfield situation.
Following a crucial 3-1 victory against newly promoted side Brentford in midweek, Ralf Rangnick’s side will go head-to-head against West Ham United on Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford. The Hammers are also in the race for the top four finish and the Red Devils will be looking to overcome the challenge of David Moyes’ side and go beyond the London club in the fourth spot.
