News for today: Man United legend Paul Scholes has said that either Mauricio Pochettino or Antonio Conte would be the perfect candidate to take over the managerial position at the Old Trafford stadium.

After dismissing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in November, the Red Devils hierarchy decided to appoint Ralf Rangnick for an interim role until the end of this season.

Speaking with Webby and O’Neill YouTube channel, quoted by Stretty news, Scholes has expressed his verdict on the current managerial situation at United and believes that the Red Devils hierarchy should appoint an elite level manager and either Antonio Conte or Mauricio Pochettino will be the right appointment for the record Premier League champions. He said:

“Conte and Pochettino, they’re the ones we want. Conte, we know he’s up there with [Pep] Guardiola, [Thomas] Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp. You know what, I still think [Man Utd] could still get him from Tottenham. Tottenham fans probably won’t like me for saying that. But you can see Conte is already getting a little bit frustrated with his squad of players.

“I think he could do something special here, Conte. He’s got the pedigree to do it. Will we be able to get him? I don’t know. Pochettino – I think he’s a brilliant manager. I love what he’s done at Tottenham and at Southampton. PSG? We don’t know yet. Give him another year or this season to see if he can prove to be an elite manager.

“But because he hasn’t won anything of significance, and I think he won the French league and cup last year, he still has something to prove for me. I think he’s more than capable of doing it.”

The United legend has also criticised the decision about appointing Ralf Rangnick. The former midfielder believes that the German boss does not have much success at the top level to manage a big team like Manchester United.

News for today: Who will become the next Man United manager at the end of this season?

News for today: Man United had the opportunity to appoint Antonio Conte back in November as the Italian coach was keen on joining the Old Trafford outfit at that time. However, the Red Devils hierarchy didn’t fancy the appointment of the former Inter Milan manager and eventually, he decided to join Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile, Ralf Rangnick’s appointment as an interim manager is a shrewd decision from the Old Trafford club. The German boss will take over the consultancy role after the end of this season and that will benefit the club in the long-term future.

After assessing the players in these six months, the 63-year-old will be able to make his decision as to where the Red Devils need strengthening and who should stay at the club and who should become the next manager. However, the 63-year-old has already expressed his desire that if he does well in this season then he will recommend himself for the permanent managerial position.

Therefore, although Scholes didn’t like the appointment of Ralf Rangnick, the German boss could be the right man to bring back the glory days at the Old Trafford stadium, if the Red Devils hierarchy give all the power to the 63-year-old to make the decisions.
