News of today: Former defender Gary Neville reckons that Man United youngster Mason Greenwood should start every game for the Old Trafford outfit.
The 20-year-old started the game against Newcastle United on Monday night but endured a tough time before substituting at the halftime mark. Meanwhile, the Red Devils displayed a woeful performance against the struggling Magpies and in the end, had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
Ralf Rangnick’s side found themselves trailing by 1-0 early into the game but thanks to a telling contribution from second-half substitute Edinson Cavani, the Red Devils were able to salvage one point from this encounter.
Speaking on the Sky Sports’ Monday night football show ahead of the game against Newcastle, quoted by Express, the Red Devils legend said that Mason Greenwood should play every game for Manchester United as the former England International believes that the youngster is an exceptional talent. Neville said:
“I think Greenwood has to play. For me, he is an exceptional talent. I think he can potentially play with his back to goal, he can receive on the half turn. But I just think he has to play. I think the growth in him is greater than a lot of the other young players in the squad. I think he’s got so much to give. I think everybody that’s a Manchester United fan, Manchester United coaching staff, everybody recognises this could be something really special.
“Get his head right, keep him fit, keep him consistent, make sure he has good senior players around him that can basically lead him and get him on track, and I think you’ve got someone there who can be anything he wants to be in football. I think he has to be in the team to grow, I think he’s a goal [threat] all the time, probably more than Sancho. So for me, it’s not a surprise that he’s in the team.”

News of today: Mason Greenwood has the potential to become the mainstay of Man United in future. He is quick, excellent with the ball, comfortable on both feet and can play anywhere across the frontline. So, the youngster has every attribute to become a complete forward.
However, Rangnick has previously said that the 20-year-old still has a lot to improve before coming into consideration for starting every game. The German boss has said that the youngster has excellent efficiency with the possession but needs to develop physically in order to match the physical demands of the Premier League. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the German can mould the youngster into a world-class player.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils boss likes to deploy a proactive, counter-pressing style of football. But, the Old Trafford outfit are yet to showcase that on the pitch. Rangnick’s side have now displayed lacklustre performances in the last two games against the bottom sides Norwich City and Newcastle United. And the German boss has said that his team needs to improve physically to cope with his style of football.
So, it will be interesting to see how Manchester United improve under Rangnick. And following a disappointing draw against Eddie Howe’s side, the Red Devils will welcome Burnley on Thursday night and will be looking to get back to winning ways in order to stay in the race for the top four.
