News: Former forward Kevin Phillips is full of praise for Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot after the Portuguese’s transformation under Ralf Rangnick

The Red Devils signed the 22-year-old back in 2018 from Primeira Liga side FC Porto for around £19.4 million. However, the defender struggled to establish himself as a starter due to injury issues. He spent the last season out on loan at AC Milan in search of first-team football which appeared to be the end of his time at the Old Trafford outfit.

But, following the arrival of Rangnick, the youngster has started to play regularly and is showing his talent in the Premier League. The Portuguese displayed colossal performances in the last two games against Brentford and West Ham United and won the man of the match award against the Bees.

Speaking with Football Insider, the European Golden Boot winner slammed the former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer due to his reluctance to give chance to Dalot and said that it is good to watch the Portuguese getting more game time under Rangnick.

Phillips further stated that the 22-year-old is undoubtedly a talented player and the German boss is the perfect manager to bring the best out of the former Porto man. Kevin Phillips said:

“He never got a chance under previous managers. It’s great to see him getting a run over games and taking his chance under Rangnick. He undoubtedly has qualities. You do not get a move to Manchester United unless you have. Now he has the right manager and an opportunity to showcase his abilities he can perform.

“He’s been superb and the stats prove it. He can be a big part of what Rangnick is trying to achieve at United. In Dalot, Rangnick has found a player who can give him everything he wants from right-back. Dalot looks full of confidence. Whatever he is doing, it is working. It is huge for United to have a player like Dalot coming to the fore in a period where they have by large been struggling.”

News: Can Dalot establish himself as an integral part of Manchester United’s system under Rangnick?

News: Diogo Dalot arrived at Manchester United as a teenager. He struggled to settle down in a new league and the injuries didn’t help the youngster either. Therefore, it was the right decision by the former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to send the 22-year-old on loan last term to play regular first-team football.

The youngster enjoyed a productive loan spell with the Rossoneri and they wanted to extend his loan for one more year but the Norwegian decided to keep Dalot in his squad to deputies Aaron Wan-Bissaka. However, surprisingly the former boss never utilised the 22-year-old, despite the Englishman’s poor display in this season.

Following the arrival of Rangnick, Wan-Bissaka has struggled with his fitness issues and the Portugal international has made the most of his chances. The German boss likes to deploy a full back who can contribute in both ends of the pitch and Dalot could be an apt candidate for that role.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Wan-Bissaka. Despite the Englishman’s prowess in defending one-on-one situations, he lacks ability going forward. So, he might struggle to break into Ralf Rangnick’s starting eleven.
