Some Manchester United players were reportedly surprised by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s special treatment of Paul Pogba as per the report in English outlet The Times

The former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was initially appointed as an interim manager back in December 2018. But, after managing to string some positive results in the first few months of his tenure. The club’s hierarchy decided to appoint the Norwegian boss as the full-time role, disregarding the fact that he did not have any experience in managing at an elite level.

After signing the long-term contract, things went south quite quickly as the Red Devils finished the season in sixth place outside the Champions League spot.

According to the report, some Manchester United players were surprised by Solskjaer when they saw Paul Pogba escape punishment despite publicly expressing his desire to find a new challenge away from the Old Trafford stadium.

Those players felt that the Norwegian boss should have sold the World Cup winner that summer. Meanwhile, few players have expressed frustration, given they had to play through the pain barrier, while Pogba was allowed to travel to a foreign country for rehabilitation.

The report further stated that some players raised questions internally as to why Harry Maguire was handed the captain armband only six months after joining the club.

Our View:

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer mismanaged the squad and there was frustration inside the dressing room which became public following the Norwegian boss’ departure.

The former United boss wanted to keep a big squad in order to keep the competition for places. However, he hardly ever rotated his squad which increased frustration due to the lack of game time among many players.

The Norwegian boss had opportunities to cash in on some players and trim his squad down. However, he decided to keep them with false promises of regular playing time.

Following Solskjaer’s departure, Ralf Rangnick came in as an interim manager and he had to face the toxic dressing room. And it was impossible to find success in such an environment. So, it will be interesting to see how the new manager Erik ten Hag handles the dressing room and whether he can guide the club back to the summit or not.
