Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has revealed that Anthony Elanga was close to leaving the club in January but the German boss decided to keep the winger after watching YouTube videos.

The Red Devils academy graduate made his senior debut against Leicester City last term and made two appearances in the Premier League, scoring a solitary goal. Meanwhile, since the arrival of the German boss, the youngster has already played six games in all competitions this season.

Speaking with BBC Sports(Via Metro), Ralf Rangnick said that he was impressed by the performance of Anthony Elanga from the first training session and realized the youngster’s talent by watching YouTube clips.

United’s interim boss further stated that the Swedish was ready to go out on loan but the 63-year-old decided to keep the academy graduate in his squad. Rangnick said:

“I must say from the very first day from my first training session, he showed up. l had heard his name before and I was in my hotel room watching videos of him on YouTube, I thought this boy was really good. He was almost on his way out on loan, I told him you will not go out on loan, you will stay here. He has developed in training.”

Will Anthony Elanga get regular playing time at Manchester United under Ralf Rangnick?

Anthony Elanga has started the last two Premier League encounters against Aston Villa and Brentford, and showed glimpses of his talent in both games. He was proactive without the possession and also scored against the Bees last night.

So, the youngster should get more chances this season. The German boss wants to press the opposition higher up the field and the 19-year-old’s energy will help the United’s interim manager to implement his high-intensity style of football.

With Marcus Rashford struggling to showcase his best this season and Anthony Martial looking to find his future elsewhere, giving Elanga an extended run in the first-team squad could be the right decision by Rangnick.

Meanwhile, after a disappointing draw against the Villans, Manchester United have returned to winning ways against Brentford. The Red Devils will be hoping to keep their winning run going when they welcome West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
