Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick is complimentary about Raphael Varane’s performance ahead of the trip to Turf Moor.
The Red Devils signed the 28-year-old from Real Madrid last summer for around £36 million. Since joining the club, the defender has struggled with his injury problems, making only 17 appearances in all competitions.
Speaking with the press ahead of the game against Burnley, Rangnick stated that Varane has been in better shape in recent weeks and it seems that the Frenchman has overcome his fitness issues.
The defender displayed a productive performance against Middlesbrough before being substituted and it was his best performance in United colour. The German boss is hopeful that the 28-year-old will be able to stay fit and can replicate the same performance in the upcoming fixtures as well. Rangnick said on the club’s website:
“I think he has arrived, he seems to be physically fit, he has no issues with injuries anymore. I thought until he had to be substituted against Middlesbrough, he did extremely well, together with Harry. He played probably his best game, knowing it was a Championship team but a very ambitious Championship team, and I’m happy to have him back for tomorrow’s game. Hopefully, we can have him in the same fitness shape and in the same form that he’s played Middlesbrough for the next, upcoming games.”
Manchester United have been struggling with their defensive issues over the past few campaigns and Raphael Varane was brought into the club with the hope of solidifying the leaky defence.
However, the Red Devils have failed to gel their defence together due to the injury issues to the Frenchman and Harry Maguire’s dip in form.
The Old Trafford club have conceded 30 goals in 22 Premier League games this season, keeping only five clean sheets and three of those came following the arrival of Ralf Rangnick.
Meanwhile, after beating Brentford and West Ham ahead of the international break, Manchester United will face Burnley in the Premier League on Tuesday. Ralf Rangnick will be keen on keeping their winning runs going in order to stay in the fourth spot and maintain the distance from Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
