Ralf Rangnick expresses his verdict on the recent slumps of Jadon Sancho and reveals that the physicality of the Premier League is one of the reasons behind the Englishman’s struggles.

Manchester United signed the 21-year-old last summer from Borussia Dortmund for a whopping £73.4 million. However, the youngster hasn’t been able to showcase his talent in the Premier League this season, scoring a solitary goal in 17 appearances.

Speaking with the media ahead of the game against Brentford, quoted by the club’s website, Rangnick has said that it is hard to understand why Jadon Sancho is struggling in games, despite displaying excellent performances in training.

The German boss further stated that the intensity and the physicality are extremely high in the Premier League and the expectations of playing for a big club could be one of the reasons behind the Englishman’s struggles. Rangnick said:

“Difficult to say. I think it’s a different league, it’s a different competition. It’s more physical, it’s more pressure, although he also played for one of the biggest clubs in Germany, in Dortmund, but I think in total, the whole league, the whole competition is more physical and the level of expectation is higher.

“When he came to Borussia Dortmund as a young player, he was only 18. Now he’s 23, 24, playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. I think it’s also got to do with a lot of different things up here in his head.

“But in training, whenever I see him train, he’s showing that he’s one of the best players in the training sessions. But now it’s about the transfer to when he’s playing, and to showing to the same kind of level and performance on the pitch.”

Will Jadon Sancho find his form at Manchester United under Ralf Rangnick?

Signing Jadon Sancho in the summer was a great purchase by Manchester United. The forward is deemed to be one of the best young talents in the world and he could showcase his best at Old Trafford after settling down in a new league.

Although the 21-year-old has the talent to become an exceptional player at the theatre of dreams, he needs to develop physically in order to cope with the high demand of the Premier League. The winger has struggled to win one-on-one duels in this campaign as he has won only 34% of them compared to last season’s 52% in Bundesliga(as per Sofascore).

Meanwhile, Manchester United have performed very poorly in this season and it is not just Sancho who struggled, as a whole team they failed to display their best. Therefore, Ralf Rangnick has to find a quick solution in order to bring the best out of his talented squad.

The Red Devils are currently five points behind the fourth-placed West Ham United who have played two extra games. However, Tottenham Hotspur are only four points behind the Hammers who have four games in hand. So, it will not be easy for the German boss’ side to finish in the top four spot and qualify for the Champions League next season.
