Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick is full of praise for Cristiano Ronaldo after the striker broke his goal drought against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Despite displaying a disappointing performance, the Red Devils managed to beat the Seagulls by 2-0 at Old Trafford. The Portuguese superstar broke the deadlock just after the interval before Bruno Fernandes doubled the margin right at the death.

Speaking with the club’s media, Rangnick lauded the 37-year-old’s performance and expressed his delight. The German boss also praised the forward’s work rate and stated that it was one of the best performances from Ronaldo in recent weeks. Rangnick said:

“Yes, it was an amazing goal. Not only an important one but an amazing goal. Overall, it was also a good performance by Cristiano. Energetically, he was online, he was always trying to help the other teammates. I think, in the last weeks, that would be the best performance by him and very, very important for us.”

Our View:

Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t enjoyed a great time since the arrival of Rangnick, scoring only three goals and notching up a solitary assist in 11 appearances in all competitions. Meanwhile, the Red Devils as a team have failed to showcase their best during this period which also contributed to the Portuguese’s recent slump.

Scoring on Tuesday night will give a boost to the 37-year-old ahead of the crucial game against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. The striker has enjoyed a great time against the Rojiblancos in Europe’s elite club competition over the years and the Mancunians will be hoping that the Portuguese will be able to replicate the same performance next week.

Meanwhile, following two consecutive draws in the Premier League, Manchester United have finally managed to earn all three points in midweek. The Red Devils are currently sitting in the fourth spot with 43 points in 25 games.

Therefore, the Old Trafford outfit will be hoping to keep their winning run going when they travel to Elland Road on Sunday to encounter Leeds United.
