Following a productive couple of seasons at Elland Road, the Brazilian has attracted attention from big European clubs. The Red Devils are reportedly showing interest in the highly-rated forward, while Barcelona are also keeping a close eye on him.
The 25-year-old would have left the club for a reported cut-price of £25 million if they failed to secure their Premier League status for next season. However, having managed to survive the relegation, the said release clause can not be triggered this summer.
According to the report, Raphinha would favour a move to Manchester United over Barcelona due to his ‘older brother’ Bruno Fernandes. A strong relationship grew between them when they played at Sporting CP together for a brief spell.
Signing Raphinha will be a great acquisition for Manchester United. The Brazilian took no time to settle down in a tougher league when he stepped up from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais to the Peacocks. And the Old Trafford faithful will be hoping that he will be able to replicate the same performance if the club’s hierarchy manage to get this deal over the line.
However, after Leeds secured their status in the Premier League, the winger’s price has gone up and it might not be possible for United to spend around £50 million for the highly-rated forward this summer. Reports are claiming that the Elland Road side want a fee of around the said region.
Manchester United need to prioritize signing a new midfielder, defender, right-back and a centre-forward this summer. And after managing to address the main issues, they should try and address the other issues in the squad.
So, it will be interesting to see how the club’s hierarchy will perform in this summer’s transfer window. In the past, they have failed to address the key issues and they will have an opportunity this summer to rectify their previous mistakes.
