Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could remain as the Manchester United manager, as per the report from The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell.
After enduring a painful defeat against the bitter rival Liverpool, the Norwegian’s position was under real threat as few reports were claiming that the Red Devils were considering sacking the manager.
However, The Athletic’s journalist is claiming that Manchester United hierarchy are prepared to give the Norwegian another chance to rectify Sunday’s result. Although the Old Trafford hierarchy were firm on their stance to keep Solskjaer as their manager following Leicester humiliation, defeat against Liverpool has softened their approach.
The Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio earlier reported that Manchester United have already made their first move to make Antonio Conte the next Red Devils boss if they were to part ways with the Norwegian. But, now the English outlet is claiming that Solskjaer’s job is safe at the moment, are two conflicting reports from both tier 1 journalists.
Will keeping Solskjaer be the right choice from Manchester United?
Following the 5-0 defeat against Liverpool, Solskjaer commented the result as ‘the darkest day’ of his career. The Norwegian’s side produced a lacklustre performance against a well-drilled Jurgen Klopp’s side and without even reaching the top gear, the Anfield side came away with an astonishing victory.
After producing a shambolic performance on Sunday afternoon, the efficiency of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under scrutiny. Despite getting proper financial backing and remaining almost three years as the United manager, the Norwegian boss hasn’t been able to implement a proper identity and playing style at the club.
So, the Old Trafford faithful are showing disappointment at their manager and asking to part ways with the club legend. But, the recent report in The Athletic will certainly make the fans even more infuriated on the club’s hierarchy who have already been under fire of the fans.
With Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City being the next two fixtures for the Red Devils, it will be interesting to see how many points Manchester United can earn with Solskjaer as the manager. Any more sleep up could create even more unrest among the Old Trafford faithful.
