Sports news football today: Manchester United’s impending interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s arrival could clear up Paul Pogba’s future with the Old Trafford outfit.
The Red Devils bought the Frenchman back in 2016 for a club-record £89 million from Juventus. However, the move hasn’t gone according to plans as the 28-year-old hasn’t been able to live up to the expectations at the Old Trafford stadium.
Speaking with Sport1 Doppelpass(via Goal) back in 2017 during his time as the RB Leipzig’s sporting director, the German boss stated that his style of play does not suit players like Paul Pogba. Rangnick said:
“[I] wouldn’t swap Keita with Pogba for our style of play.”
Meanwhile, Ralf Rangnick is looking likely to become United’s interim manager as per the report in The Athletic and this could mean Pogba’s future is coming towards the end at Old Trafford stadium.
The Frenchman’s contract will expire at the end of this season and it will be interesting to see what the Red Devils hierarchy will decide about the 28-year-old’s future.
Sports news football today: Will Pogba leave Manchester United in January?
Sports news football today: The appointment of Ralf Rangnick as an interim manager and then allowing him to take charge in the consultancy role will be a shrewd decision from the Red Devils hierarchy. The 63-year-old is one of the best people to structure a football club and make better choices in every aspect of the game.
Meanwhile, despite saying those words back in 2017, Rangnick wouldn’t want to make his mind up without seeing Pogba’s performance on the pitch during training seasons and on the match day. Therefore, the German boss might want to give the 28-year-old chances to adapt to his playing style before making the final decision.
However, given the Frenchman is injured at the moment for a few weeks, it will be hard to make any decisions about the 28-year-old’s future during the January transfer window. Therefore, the Red Devils might have to take the risk of losing the player for free at the end of this season.
