Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag is reportedly excited about the prospect of becoming Manchester United manager next season as per the report in English outlet Daily Mail

Following a flurry of bad results, the Red Devils hierarchy decided to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last November and appointed Ralf Rangnick as an interim manager. After the end of German’s tenure at the end of this season, he will become the consultant of the club.

The Old Trafford club are in search of a new manager, with Mauricio Pochettino and Erik Ten Hag being among the favourites in replacing Rangnick.

According to the report, the Dutchman appears to be keen on becoming the next Manchester United manager and is taking English lessons in order to keep a firm grasp on the language ahead of a potential move to the Premier League

The report further claims that Ajax have already been made aware of the 52-year-old’s intention of leaving the club at the end of this season. And Ten Hag is preparing to bring Mitchel van der Gaag as his assistant if the deal gets over the line.

Our View:

Erik Ten Hag will be an excellent appointment for Manchester United. The Dutchman has a similar coaching philosophy to Pep Guardiola as they both are inspired by the late Johan Cruyff. The 52-year-old and the current City boss have previously worked in tandem at Bayern Munich.

Ajax enjoyed a stellar campaign under Ten Hag a couple of seasons back where they won the Eredivisie and also went all the way to the semi-final of the Champions League. The Dutchman has rebuilt another excellent Ajax side and are showing promises of replicating a similar run this season.

Although Mauricio Pochettino is leading the race to become the next Manchester United manager, Erik Ten Hag could be a better fit for the Old Trafford outfit. So, it will be interesting to see who the club’s hierarchy will appoint as the next permanent manager.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have lost ground in their quest for the top-four finish after losing points against bottom sides. Therefore, Ralf Rangnick’s side will need to find some positive results amid a tough schedule in March to keep their hope alive in qualifying for the Champions League next season.
