Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag has responded about the recent speculation with Manchester United.
The Red Devils hierarchy are reportedly active in the market in search of a new permanent manager and the 52-years-old is on the radar of the record Premier League champions. The recent reports were claiming that the Dutchman is excited about the possibility of joining the Old Trafford outfit.
The former Pep Guardiola’s apprentice was asked about his future ahead of Ajax’s cup tie against AZ Alkmaar and Ten Hag remained tight-lipped about it. Speaking at the press conference quoted by Trouw, he said:
“At the moment I am only working with Ajax and have no further thoughts on the future. The focus is on this season. Right now I shouldn’t be the theme. The theme is: how are we going to win games?”
Erik Ten Hag could be an excellent appointment for Manchester United. However, there is no assurance that the Dutchman will be able to bring success at the Old Trafford stadium.
The Red Devils currently have a squad assembled by different managers with different philosophies. So, the 52-year-old might struggle to find the perfect combination in his first season and if he fails to showcase his managerial prowess from the get-go, the Old Trafford faithful could turn their back very quickly.
On the other hand, Ten Hag would want to sign players who would fit his style of football. However, the Red Devils hierarchy might go for a different option as it has happened time and time again over the past few campaigns.
Meanwhile, the interim boss Ralf Rangnick has struggled to bring the best out of the current Manchester United squad due to multiple issues and the new manager might also have to face a similar problem after arriving at the club. The Old Trafford faithful will have to endure yet another rebuild from next season and the new manager will have to face a daunting challenge ahead.
