Transfer news Man United: Manchester United are reportedly ready to go head-to-head with city rival Manchester City for Real Sociedad ace Alexander Isak as per the report in Spanish outlet Fichajes

The 22-year-old was linked with a move to the fellow Premier League club Arsenal during the summer transfer window but a deal never materialised and the Sweden international ended up signing a long term contract with the Spanish side until 2026.

According to the report, despite signing a long term contract with the club during the summer, Isak might be on his way out of Reale Arena at the end of this season. Two Manchester United clubs are closely monitoring the Swedish’s situation with the Spanish club and could make a move to bolster their attacking options.

The report further claims that the 22-year-old has a release clause of around £75 million and the Red Devils might be looking to add the youngster to their disposal to make the deputy of Cristiano Ronaldo and take care of the number nine position after the end of the Portuguese’s time at Old Trafford.

Transfer news Man United: Manchester United weighing up a move for Isak:

Transfer news Man United: Isak will add more attacking options for the United boss to choose from if they were to sign the Sweden international, but given the Red Devils already have enough firepower in that position, it might not be necessary to bring yet another attacking player.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are lacking a quality defensive midfielder for quite a while now and following a recent bad run of results, it became more apparent that the requirement of a specialist holding midfielder.

The Norwegian manager has been deploying Fred and McTominay in the midfield pivot role. However, neither of them have been able to showcase enough quality to fill that void.

Therefore, spending the aforementioned money on yet another forward might not be a shrewd decision from Manchester United. The Red Devils have struggled to win midfield battles in most of their games, so bringing in a defensive midfielder would be a better decision.
