Transfer News: Manchester United are reportedly showing active interest in Brighton & Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey as per the report in English outlet Daily Mail

The 21-year-old joined the Seagulls in January 2020 from Chelsea for around £2.9 million. The full-back took no time to adapt to the top-flight football and straightaway showcased his talent in the Amex Stadium.

According to the report, Ralf Rangnick is keen on strengthening the right-back position as the German boss isn’t impressed by either Diogo Dalot or Aaron Wan-Bissaka and wants to upgrade the full-back slot. The Red Devils have identified Tariq Lamptey will be a perfect addition to the squad, given he is comfortable in defending as well as going forward.

The report further claims that Manchester United are willing to spend around £30 million for the Brighton man but the Seagulls want around £40 million for their star man.

Transfer News: Should Manchester United sign Lamptey in January?

Transfer News: Signing Tariq Lamptey will be a very good addition for Manchester United. The youngster has already showcased his talent with Graham Potter’s side and the Old Trafford faithful will be hoping that the 21-year-old will be able to replicate the same performance with the record Premier League champions, should the Red Devils hierarchy manage to get this deal over the line.

Ralf Rangnick currently has Dalot and Wan-Bissaka at his disposal for the right-back position. The Portuguese has shown some frailties in defence but has looked good going forward. On the other hand, the former Crystal Palace man has displayed his prowess in defending in one-on-one situations but lacks efficiency going forward. So, signing a right-back who is efficient on both ends of the pitch will be a very good addition to the Red Devils squad.

However, given Manchester United need strengthening in their midfield department in this January transfer window, spending money on the full-back where they already have two players might not be a shrewd business from the Red Devils hierarchy.

So, it will be interesting to see what Ralf Rangnick decides to do. The German boss has already expressed his desire to strengthen the midfield before the end of this month and the Red Devils have already been linked with several midfielders.
